Shingo Takenouchi (竹ノ内 晋吾 Takenouchi Shingo) is a member of the boys' soft-tennis club and the older brother of An Takenouchi. With his bright personality, he brings a smile to the club.

Personality[]
At first, Shingo is somewhat aggressive and treats others (like Taiyo Ishigami, who was a common target of his behavior) with little respect. This gradually changes to him being more playful towards others than anything. He seems to be very empathetic at heart as he stands up for Yu when they are being bullied and comforts Tsubasa after he is injured.

At the beginning of the anime, it seems like Shingo and Tsubasa did not like each other at first. However, in Episode 4, Maki Katsuragi decides to put them together as doubles partners and, when they face Toma and Maki as a pair, they argue a lot but seem to warm up to each other afterward. In episode 9, when Shingo goes out to practice he sees Tsubasa walking in which he runs away from Shingo. When Shingo grabs his arm, he sees Tsubasa's bruise and becomes concerned. He tells Tsubasa that he going to get help and Shingo's dad brings Tsubasa to the hospital. Later in the episode, Tsubasa and Shingo are sitting together at a bench and Tsubasa tells him about how his father hates him while Shingo tries to comfort him.

Etymology[]
- The name Shingo means "advance" (晋) (shin) and "I, me" (吾) (go).
- Shingo's surname Takenouchi means "bamboo" (竹) (take) and "inside, within" (内) (uchi), which literally means "Inside of Bamboo" altogether.
